Dorothy Evelyn Farmer was born in Houston, Texas, on November 16, 1934 to Edwin and Lucille Breeding. After graduation from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, she began her education at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas and finished with a degree in music from Texas Christian University. For 33 years she taught middle school band, teaching children an appreciation of music and the enjoyment of success. Most of her career was spent at Fulmore Junior High and Covington Middle School both in Austin, Texas, where she met her husband of 45 years, Don Farmer.
After she and Don retired, they began to plan to move to Colorado and build a log cabin home which Dorothy designed. That home in the mountains was her joy for 15 years until Alzheimer’s claimed her life on August 28, 2015.
Dorothy was a natural artist, sketching and painting her favorite animal, the horse. She had great joy in rock hunting in the mountains of Colorado, collecting antiques, and especially traveling and camping in their RV.
In Lake City, Colorado, Dorothy was involved in Friends of the Library, the community band and choir. She shared her talent with the flute in church and in the choir.
Dorothy was much loved and admired by all. One described her as a “very elegant lady”.
