Dottie, born to James C. and Verdi Wilson, grew up in Port Clinton, Ohio. She was an excellent student and received a scholarship to attend Webber College (Webber International University), in Babson Park, Florida, one of the first business schools for women. It was there that she met Gene, who was in flight training at Bartow Air Base. They were married on October 10, 1953 and moved to Los Angeles, California, eventually settling in Anaheim to raise their family. Dottie worked for Chrysler Corporation, then moved into insurance administration for various agencies. However, her real passion was serving the Lord. Dottie taught women’s Bible Studies, led children’s church and Vacation Bible School. She also served as a Stephens Minister, Chaplain at Georgetown St David Hospital, and volunteered in Hospice care. In her spare time, she loved to decorate her house, collect Majolica pottery, and spend spa days getting her hair done with her favorite hairdresser.
She is predeceased by her daughter Valerie Kaye Martin and her brother James C. Wilson Jr. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Gene; sons, Brad and Mitch; daughters-in-law, Pam and Shannon; sister-in-law, La Donna Jimenez; and grandchildren, Haley, Valerie, Cole and Avery.
The family would like to thank Hill Country Bible Church especially the Stephens Minister team for their support and prayers, and the staff of Tranquility Hospice Care, Georgetown Living Home Health Care, Home Helpers of West Austin and The Helper Bees for all the care they provided.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Bryan Threlkeld officiating. She will be laid to rest at Rose Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Whittier, California.
In lieu of flowers, we request donations to the National Kidney Foundation to improve care for kidney failure patients.
