Eric Samuel Jones transitioned to his Heavenly Home on Friday, October 18, 2013 following a hard fought battle with leukemia. In the presence of his mom, Kimberlie Garcia, and his grandfather, Nathan “Papa” Jones, he took his first breath in Fort Worth, Texas on October 5, 1993. In everything he did or aspired to do, Eric lived life to the fullest, inspiring those he encountered, and always wearing the most beautiful smile.
Eric attended school in Keller, Texas until 2009 when his family moved to Georgetown. As a student at Georgetown High, Eric not only excelled academically, but also as a member of the Varsity football team and the Varsity track team, lettering in both sports and winning third place in District UIL in the 200 meter. In his short life, Eric accomplished much. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America and while living in North Texas, volunteered as a Boy Scout camp counselor. In 2009, as a member of World Changers, Eric volunteered through Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild houses destroyed by Hurricane Ike in Corpus Christi. It was during this time that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. Eric also volunteered as a teen attorney for the Georgetown Teen Court. Eric’s first summer job was at Reunion Ranch, but his favorite job will always be the position he held at Mel’s Lone Star Lanes, where he was not surprisingly named Employee of the Month in May 2012.
Following his 2012 graduation from Georgetown High School, Eric began his first semester at the University of North Texas where he became a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
Eric enjoyed all sports, loved his family and friends, and was an inspiration to everyone he met. He was preceded in death by his uncle and idol, Ivan Paul Jones. Mourning his passing are his parents, Adam and Kimberlie Garcia (Georgetown); brothers, Ian Auston (Georgetown) and Steven Theva (Georgetown); girlfriend, Lana Roff (Georgetown); great-grandmothers, Valetta Jackson (Fort Worth) and Patricia Jones (Austin); grandparents, Nathan and Jackie Jones (Austin), Leo and Mimi Garcia (Georgetown), and Patricia Couzin (Fort Worth); Uncles and Aunts, Julius and Tracey Jones (Fort Worth), Albert and Mary Garcia (Beeville), and Tyrone and Kristina Taylor (San Antonio); and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
