Felix was a devoted and dedicated husband to his beloved wife Esther Barrera of 58 years before her passing in June 2024. He was a very loving and supportive father to his sons, Bobby, Rick, and youngest son Danny Isaac before his passing in April 2021. We praise the Lord because Felix is now joyfully reunited with his wife and his best friend, his son.
He is survived by his sons, Bobby Barrera, and wife Maria; Rick Barrera, and wife Mary Ann. And his beloved grandkids, Evan Robert Barrera; Angelica Wisian; Miranda Danielle Barrera; and Isaiah Richard Barrera. Felix also leaves behind many brothers and sisters for whom he loved, supported, and wanted the best.
He is cherished by his extended family and friends, who admired his humor, generosity, and unwavering spirit and tenacity. His legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire all those who knew him.
Born on March 5, 1949, in Georgetown, Texas, Felix remained a lifelong resident. As a child, he traveled with his entire family to distant locations such as Montana to assist his family working in the fields, where he happily met his future wife.
He, his wife, and his family attended Church of the Holy Spirit under Pastor Elias Guajardo for many years, where he was a singer, musician, and director of the band Faith Gospel Singers.
Felix worked hard his entire life as a machinist, an extraordinary carpenter, newspaper carrier, and GISD supervisor. As a newspaper carrier, he worked 365 days a year for over 10 years with fewer than 10 days missed, a testament to his hard work ethic and dependability. Felix’s desire through his hard work was so he would leave a legacy of security to his sons and grandkids.
His gift and passion was as a Christian music band director and Christian play director. He facilitated numerous Christian plays in church and outside in the community that delivered the message of Christ.
As a band director, he and his band Faith Gospel Singers, would travel all over Texas with a music ministry that touched and blessed countless lives. Even in his last days you would find him in his garage singing and playing his guitar as passerby’s would stop and listen.
He also inspired and encouraged many to discover their musical talents and gifts.
As we remember Felix, let us celebrate his extraordinary life and the countless lives he touched. His spirit lives on in the acts of kindness and generosity he inspired in his family and friends leaving behind a profound impact that will resonate within the hearts of all who knew him.
Forever in our hearts, Felix Barrera's legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering support. His memory will live on through stories shared by his loved ones and the strong values he instilled in his own family.
May we find solace in knowing that he is now reunited with his loved ones who have gone before us. And that his life is a testament to Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:6-8
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
