Frances Marie Schroeder, 89, of San Antonio, Texas, passed into eternal rest on the morning of May 21, 2015. Born in Browndell, TX to Marie and Arthur Dittert, Frances is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbert Schroeder and firstborn daughter, Jan Marie Schroeder. She is survived by her sisters, Helen St. Martin and Ruth Farringer and her husband Russel; daughter, Le Green (Linda) Schubert and her husband Dwayne Schubert; son, Larry Schroeder and his wife Katherine Keating; and granddaughter, Crystal Green; as well as beloved nieces and nephews.
An alumna of Brackenridge High School class of 1943, she graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio in 1960 with a BS in Elementary Education and earned her Masters Degree in History from A&M Kingsville in 1974. A beloved and dedicated teacher, she began her career in 1960 as an elementary teacher, first in San Antonio, then Corpus Christi. Returning to San Antonio to teach Earth Science at Anson Jones MS until her retirement in 1991, she presented teaching workshops at state and national levels, earning many awards including the State of Texas Outstanding Earth Science Teacher of the Year with a certificate of recognition from the National Society of Geologists.
She was always delighted by learning and sharing her knowledge.
“In the getting of my education there was a great deal of struggle and the wonderful feeling of “Oh, I see!” In teaching, many techniques were used to reach the student and there was no better feeling than seeing the child’s face light up with an “OH! I get it!” My wish for everyone is that they continue the excitement of learning all through their life.”
A member of Jefferson Methodist, she was also a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi and Trinity United Methodist Church of San Antonio, where she was active in many roles including chairing the Blood Drive.
Community service included docent and greeter at the McNay Museum of Art, the Conservation Society, and the Book Fair for the San Antonio AAUW, which provided scholarships to women working on advanced degrees. She loved reading, history, art, travel and music.
She gave her time as she gave her heart - without reservation. She will be deeply missed.
