

Fred O. “Man” Clarkson, 66 of Georgetown, went home to be with his Savior on February 20, 2008 in a local nursing home surrounded by his family. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, February 25, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Friendly Will Missionary Baptist Church, 706 W. 14th Street in Georgetown. Interment will follow in Citizen’s Memorial Park in Georgetown. Fred was born Feb. 18, 1942 to James L. and Catherine (Whitley) Clarkson in Georgetown. He was educated in local schools. He was baptized as a child at Friendly Will Missionary Baptist Church and that was where his religious foundation was formulated. Fred held a number of positions in and around the town, most notably as a chef at Southwestern University and then as a porter for Don Hewlett Automotive. On Dec. 20, 1975 he married Ruby Lee Nance in Georgetown and they started their family together. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; James Larfaye Clarkson and Ella Bee Jenkins. He leaves to cherish his memory his former wife and their children; Sharon Clarkson-Williams and husband Rudy, David and wife Rosemary, Phyllis Bijou and husband Troy, Gregory, Carolyn Contreras and husband Cornelio and Michael-all of Georgetown, sisters; Bertha Williams of Georgetown, Mary Lynn Bailey and husband Clarence of Austin, brother; Charles of Indianapolis, Ind. Fred also touched the lives of many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Wesleyan Nursing Home and its staff for the love, kindness and care provided for our Dad in his time of need. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2008 in the Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH-35 in Georgetown.
