Gloria Annette Hilton, age 84, of Florence, Texas, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015. She was born and raised in Gainesville, Texas to parents John Hudson Shepherd and Marie Annette (Thomason) Shepherd. Gloria was a band sweetheart and majorette at Gainesville High School.
At age 15, she starred in the circus working the high flying trapeze act doing loop-de-loops. Gloria worked as a Southwestern Bell phone operator working the switches. She married James “Buddy” Wallace Hilton on November 24, 1959.
Gloria was a former President of the Zilker Garden Club, Deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Austin and volunteered for Austin State Hospital working with the disabled. She loved traveling and gardening. Gloria and her husband were members of the Red River Rovers, a motorhome social travel club.
Preceding her death were her mother Marie Annette Winters, father John Hudson Shepherd, stepfather William “Royal” Winters, brother Richard Ewing Shepherd and sister Helen Zane Korbar.
She is survived by her husband, Buddy Hilton; children, Shane Hilton and wife Nicole and Shannon Fail and husband Lewis; and grandchildren, Shane Thom, Kailee, Macey, Danni, Krista, Wesley and Dillon.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas with funeral services to follow at 2:30 P.M. with Celebrant Donna Mayfield officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas. A Life Celebration will be held at 5:30 P.M. at Shane and Nicole Hilton’s house following the committal service.
