Grace Anne Schaefer

Grace Anne Maroneey Schaefer entered eternal rest on February 23, 2018, shortly before her 72nd birthday. Grace Anne was born to Frances Maroneey and the late Cyrus Francis Maroneey on March 14, 1946, in Austin, Texas. She lived her entire life in Leander, Texas, where she was well-known and well-loved. Other than a short time during her college years when she went by Anne, she always insisted on being called Grace Anne—never just Grace. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Leander. She graduated from Southwestern University with a BS degree in 1968 and from Southwest Texas State with an MS degree in 1984. After 3 1/2 years with DPS, Grace Anne spent 32 years as a school teacher, most of her career in Leander. She married Kenneth Schaefer in February 1969, and they have one daughter, Anja. After retirement, Grace Anne became a writer and authored The New Day Dawns and As Shadows Fall. She and Kenn started a publishing company, GASLight Publishing, that published her books along with the works of other authors. Grace Anne was vivacious and friendly, introducing herself and making friends in expected places, such as freshmen orientation at college, and in unexpected places, such as in a women’s clothing store. More than 100 of those friends came out to celebrate her 70th birthday two years ago. Grace Anne had a decided opinion on everything and everyone, and she was always eager to share those opinions. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Schaefer; her daughter, Anja Schaefer of Bowie, Texas; her mother, Frances Maroneey of Leander, Texas; as well as countless friends and numerous cousins and other relatives. Visitation will be from 4:00- 7:00 P.M. on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in the chapel of Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bagdad Cemetery in Leander, Texas.
