Halsey Douglas Dukes ran out of extra lives on December 31, 2016, at the age of 4 years old. After squashing numerous Koopa Troopas, Goombas, and Bullet Bills, he was unexpectedly defeated by a brief but very aggressive illness in Austin, Texas. He was born April 11, 2012, son of Derek Marshall Dukes and Julie Ann Grayson-Dukes. When not playing Super Mario, watching Paw Patrol, and pioneering new ways to eat ketchup, he attended preschool classes at Block House Creek Elementary in Leander, Texas.
Some people are said to burn the candle at both ends; Halsey’s whole candle was a white-hot flame his entire life. He was energetic and sweet, he was friendly and outgoing, he was a bottomless well of happiness to everyone around him, and, boy howdy, our little Halseymonster loved to dance to anything with a good beat. His absence leaves a hole that can never be filled.
Halsey is survived by his parents, Derek and Julie; his sister Coraline; and his brothers Logan, Todd, and Danny. He also leaves behind his paternal grandparents, Douglas and Stacey Dukes of Liberty Hill, Texas; his paternal great-grandmother, Barbara Dukes of Austin, Texas; his maternal grandparents, John and Mary Kay Nussbaum of Fischer, Texas, and Rachel Henderson of Morristown, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Weldon Kelley Lorraine, great-grandmother, Patsy Stotts, and great-grandfathers, Bill Dukes and Johnnie Stotts.
A memorial service to celebrate Halsey's life will be at 3:30 P.M. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas.
Arrangements under the direction of Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628 (512) 863-2564.
