Helen Elizabeth Wehmeyer-Douglass was born on November 10, 1929 to Robert and Dorothy vanEmden in Evanston, Illinois. She grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin with her sister Martha. Wanting to see the world she joined the Foreign Service after graduation from MacMurry College, Jacksonville, Illinois in 1951. The Foreign Service sent her to Germany where she met Donald A. Wehmeyer and they married in 1952. Together they had three children: Dorothy, Donald (Martha) and John. After the loss of her first husband Helen married Emory Douglass in 1998. Together Helen and Emory shared their passion for golf, bridge and travel. Helen won the Berry Creek Senior Golf Tournament, a highlight of her senior years. She was a tireless worker and always keen to help her family which included two step-sons, Clay (Sheila) and Scott (Polly), twelve grand children: Aaron, Joshua, Jenna, Alan, Jeff, Anna, Michael, Valerie, Brian, Kristen, Lauran and David, and ten great grandchildren. She was a lifelong Presbyterian and served in various Georgetown civic organizations. Helen passed into the peace of our Lord on January 11 with her family by her side. The family and friends can say to Helen, "Well done good and faithful servant, rest now in peace. We will continue to love you and carry you in our hearts."
