Helen Solveig Johnson (nee Tuftedal), 97 years young, of Sun City, Georgetown, Texas, passed away with her family by her side on Friday, December 8, 2023. She was born on November 12, 1926 in Hardy, Iowa to parents Mark and Anna (nee Eikedahl) Tuftedal. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend who will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ralph E. Johnson and late brothers Kenneth Tuftedal (late Ann), Morten Tuftedal (late Irene) and younger brother Norman (late Dorothy R.- nee Mesko). Helen is survived by her daughters: Gail Johnson-Hogan and husband Ed of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Kristie Johnson-McBee and husband Calvin of San Antonio, Texas; her sons Mark Johnson and wife Gena (nee Holcomb) of Houston, Texas and Kent Johnson and partner Scott Ellis of Georgetown, Texas; and 7 grandchildren, Nathan Hogan (wife Lauren) and Michael Hogan, Catherine Johnson (husband Vince Tanzillo), Christine Johnson (husband Jay Garrett), and Crosby Johnson (wife Jamie nee Bond), and Jennifer McBee (fiancé Chad Holmes), Jeremy McBee (wife Jamie). Helen was also the cherished Great Grandmother of Grayson and Hazel Hogan; Audrey McBee; and Logan Tanzillo.
Throughout the early years of their burgeoning family of 6, Helen and Ralph navigated through three major moves that took the family from Chicago, Illinois to Seattle, Washington, then on to Portland Oregon, before settling in Texas where they resided in Houston and Georgetown for 60+ years. Both Helen and Ralph gave a significant amount of volunteer time to the churches they belonged to over the years, as well as the American Heart Association, Mended Hearts, Sons of Norway, the Caring Place, and Meals on Wheels. During those years, Helen managed the office for a very reputable dentist for over two decades. She was also very devoted to her faith, her family, and her many friends throughout her lifetime. Helen was a proud full-blooded Norwegian who cherished her heritage while instilling her love of its culture in her family. Helen’s steadfast devotion to her family and friends was unmatched and will forever leave a mark on all the countless people who were lucky enough to know her.
A Memorial Service in celebration of the life of Helen will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 510 Luther Dr., Georgetown, TX 78628. The interment of her ashes will be held at Crystal Valley Cemetery, in Manitou Springs, Colorado on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
