He was the son of Charles and Susie Pearl Raby. J.W. was one of eight siblings. His brothers Tommy, Larry, Claud Allen, Cullen, David, and Douglas, and his sister Doris, all preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patsy, with whom he shared 55 wonderful years of marriage; his son Mark Raby and wife Barbara; his son Matt Raby and wife Julie; his daughter Tracy Moore; and his son Todd Raby and wife Michelle.
J.W. was a proud grandfather to Nathan and Joseph Raby, Brooks Raby and wife Clancy, MacKenna Raby, Mason Morrow and wife Emily, Molly Moore, and Grant and Gray Raby. He was also blessed with two great-grandsons, Grayson Morrow and Cooper Moore.
After graduating from high school, J.W. began working for H-E-B, where he dedicated more than 40 years of service. He loved his work and took great pride in his career.
In his free time, he enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, and playing games, especially the beloved Texas game of 42. He was a faithful member of St. John's Methodist Church, where he enjoyed volunteering and serving others. He also devoted his time to delivering Meals on Wheels.
J.W. was never one for extensive travel. His greatest joy was being at home, surrounded by family and those he loved. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
While his family grieves his loss, they find comfort in knowing he is now with God and free from the suffering caused by Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Surrounded by those who loved him most, he peacefully went to sleep.
A memorial gathering to celebrate J.W.'s life will be held at St. John’s Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on July 24th. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Meals on Wheels.
