

Jane Reed Montgomery, 72, a proud Native Texan passed away early Thursday, April 26, 2012 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel , 393 North IH35, Georgetown. Honoring her wishes Jane will be cremated and her cremated remains will be interred at IOOF Cemetery next to her son. Jane was born July 12, 1939 in Beeville, Texas to Elmo D. and Addie Belle Crawford Reed. She was raised in the Kennedy and Goliad area until she was about 10 years old. Her family moved to Georgetown where her father bought “Hodges Drug Store”, which eventually became “Reed Drugs”. Jane graduated from Georgetown High School in 1957 and went on to the University of Texas. In 1965 she achieved her Bachelor’s degree as a Pharmacist. Jane came back to Georgetown to help run the drug store with her father. She took over the family business when her father past away in 1972. Jane met Rodney E. Montgomery, the love of her life; they married on July 2, 1966. Rodney and Jane were longtime members of Grace Episcopal Church, where they were very active members. Jane closed the drug store in 1975, and went to work for Bob Morris in Austin at the Lamp Light Village Development. In the early ‘80’s she went to work for the State of Texas in the Health Department and then the TNRCC (Texas Natural Resource and Conservation Commission), as a water technician inspector. Jane retired for the second time in 2007. Though she still continued to work, she developed her own jewelry company, “Jane Elizabeth Design”. Jane also enjoyed reading a good murder mystery, bird watching and knitting. She knitted several afghans for family and friends; they will cherish them for years to come. Jane is preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Addie Belle Reed, her two brothers, Bob P. Reed and Elmo D. Reed, Jr.; and her son, Kenneth J. Montgomery. Jane leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of over 45 years, Rodney E. Montgomery; her son, JH Montgomery and his wife Leah; her grandson, Dustin Montgomery; her sisters-in-law, Marcelene Reed and Merle Reed; along with numerous other family members and friends.
