

Born June 27, 1934 in Bloomington, Indiana and went to be with our Lord on August 6 2026. Jan grew up in Corpus Christi and resided in a number of places while married to her first husband, Bill Upson, who was a geologist for Sun Oil Company. Janet loved living near the water in Corpus Christi and Galveston Texas.
She graduated from the University of Texas of Dallas in 1977, with a BS degree in Speech Pathology and a minor in Audiology. In 1978, she graduated from Southern Methodist University with a MS degree in Speech Language Pathology.
Her professional career was spent serving the children of Texas in Richardson ISD, Alief ISD and Texas City ISD. She also held a position with UTMB in their Early Childhood Intervention Program. “Miss Jan”, as her students called her, loved her work and the children she served. She felt strongly that God had led into her profession by opening the doors leading to the education that prepared her for her life’s work.
One of Janet’s passions was dancing. Janet was a member of the Sassy Ladies Dance Group in Sun City, Texas. She was an extremely avid lover of animals, especially her Shih Tzu dogs, Milo and Annie Sue. She donated generously to several animal charities.
Janet was blessed with two children from her first marriage to Bill Upson, William Upson Jr. and Elizabeth Tunnell, both of Dallas. She has two grandchildren Melissa Tunnell and her husband Adam Lopez, and their two children Cooper and Scottie; Justin Tunnell and his wife Brittany also living in the Dallas area.
Janet was married to Dr. James Martin Sharp in 1982. For all of their marriage, they resided happily in Bayou Vista. They were members of Moody Methodist Church in Galveston.
Janet resided in Georgetown, TX with her companion Joe upon her death.
Janet was preceded in death by her Mother Goldie Smith, younger brother, Bill Jones,who had two sons, Matthew and Andrew by his wife Jocelyn. and by her husband Jim Sharp in 2002. In addition to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her survivors includes a number of cousins in Indiana and Jim’s children and grandchildren in Houston and San Antonio.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 1:00pm at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78626, with a reception to follow from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
