

Jesse Van Knight, 84 of Weir, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH35, Georgetown. A graveside service celebrating Jesse's life will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Weir City Cemetery. Jesse was born June 24, 1928 in Lawn, Texas to the late Jesse and Annie Louise Norris Knight. He was raised in the Lawn area, graduating from Lawn High School. Jesse served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII, receiving the Victory Medal and the Occupation Medal for Japan. Jesse spent his life working the oilfield drilling industry. He worked as an independent petroleum transport trucker in Wyoming, Utah and Nevada for many years before establishing his own business. Jesse was the owner and operator of, “3 Knights Rat Hole Drilling” in Ardmore, Oklahoma, he was responsible for the initial drilling at the start of an oil well. Jesse married Martha Ann to Santé Fe, New Mexico in December, 20th of 2001. They have lived in Weir for the past 11 years. Jesse is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Annie Knight; the mother of his children, Elizabeth Ann Knight and his sister, Sylvia Landry. Jesse leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 11 years, Martha Ann Knight; his daughter, Sherry A. Knight of Houston; his two sons, Ricky V. Knight and his wife Betty of Yukon, OK, and John T. Knight and his wife Michelle of Moore, OK; his 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; his stepchildren, Tamera McKenzie of Georgetown, Kerri Jones and her husband Mark of Kyle and Kip McKenzie and his wife Wendi of Round Rock; along with numerous other friends and family.
