Obituary of Jo Ann Butler
IN THE CARE OF

Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home

Jo Ann Butler, a resident of Austin, TX for 53 years passed away on March 8, 2026 at the age of 84.

Jo Ann was born in Lincoln, Logan County, Illinois on December 1, 1941 to Charles Albert Randolph and Maxine Ellen Aaron. Jo Ann was the second born of four siblings; Jan Michael Randolph, Margot Randolph, and Bruce Alan Randolph.

Jo Ann shared fond memories of adventures with her siblings, while they were growing up in rural Central Illinois. At age 12, she moved with her family to Wichita, Kansas.

Jo Ann navigated through a life of profound tragedies and triumphs, sustained by faith, courage, and resilience.

Jo Ann was a self-motivated and self-taught woman with a sharp intellect and a lifelong passion for politics, fashion, and pop culture. She was known for always being "dressed to the nines," and embodying a spirit of moxie. Jo Ann thrived in the culture of conversation and cherished her circle of friends.

In years past, Jo Ann frequented iconic Austin landmarks such as the Driskill, Antone’s, and Donn’s Depot. Jo Ann had a great appreciation of Austin’s past character and culture.

Above all, Jo Ann’s greatest loves were her children and granddaughter Christine.

Jo Ann will be deeply missed for her love, generosity, and wisdom. We are forever blessed by the time we shared and the memories that will live on in our hearts.

Jo Ann’s legacy lives on through her son, Kerry, and granddaughter Christine.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her father and mother; her daughter Cindy Lou Moss (d. 1981) and her two brothers and sister.

Jo Ann is survived by her son Kerry Scanlon, his wife Surei Scanlon, grandchildren Christine Scanlon, Jacinda Knightner (Nolan) and husband Jamie Nolan, Randy Knightner, nephews Steven Randolph, Brian Randolph, Jeffery Aramburu, and niece Natalie Aramburu.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions can be made in Jo Ann’s memory to the following organizations:
