

Joan K. Griffin, 93, of Georgetown, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm at the Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH-35, Georgetown, Texas, with a rosary being recited at 7pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 12pm at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2700 E. University Ave., Georgetown, TX. Interment will be private at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Lufkin, TX. Acting as honorary pallbearers will be Richard Krebs, John Etheredge, John Graves and George Pope. Joan was born on May 14, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts where she attended school and business college. On January 9, 1944 she married Kelley Griffin, with whom she shared the joys of life together for more than 63 years until his passing in 2007. After Kelley got out of the Navy, they moved to Lufkin, where she worked for Lufkin Industries until her retirement in 1983. In her spare time, she enjoyed square dancing, riding horses, water sports, traveling, playing bridge, games and golf. Joan is preceded in death by her husband, and a son, Michael Griffin. She is survived by her son John Kelley Griffin and wife Nila of The Woodlands/Georgetown, Texas; granddaughters: Natalie Griffin of Houston, Stefanie Krebs and husband Richard of San Antonio; great-grandchildren: Judson Payne and Peyton Leigh Thompson, and Alyssa Kelley Krebs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the The Worship Place at Sun City.
