

Joann Peterson, 70 a lifelong resident of Florence passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010. Joann’s family will gather for visitation on Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown. A service celebrating her life and her faith in God will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, December 31, 2010 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville. Joann was born on June 22, 1940 in Florence, Texas to the late Charlie Elisha and Alice Marie Standridge Whitley. She is also preceded in death by her husband , Kenneth Peterson; her brothers, Charles Whitley, Larry Whitley and Ray Whitley; and her son-in-law, Kerry Gayle. Joann worked for Fry Title as a Title Clerk for over 25 years. Joann was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Florence. Joann enjoyed watching Dallas Cowboy and UT Longhorn football. She also enjoyed country western music, her favorite singer was George Jones. Some of her hobbies were crafting and crocheting, her family and friends will be blessed with her gifts for years to come. Joann was an avid John Wayne enthusiast, from all the photos she kept of him at her home it was once asked if she was related to him, the “Duke” held a special place in her heart. Joann leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving children, Peggy Gayle, Paul Knight, and Doug Peterson and his wife Holly; her siblings, Leonard Whitley, Sue Whittenburg, Pat Samela, and Faye Kaiser; her grandchildren, Donna Triola and her husband Brian, June Bazemore, Alice Marie Wolfe and her husband Ronnie, Tammy Lane and her husband Justin, Jimmy LeGate, Robbie Dee Knight, Ashley Peterson, Kenneth Peterson, Brianna Peterson and Daniel Peterson; her great grandchildren, Jacob Triola and Mandy Neiman, and Lyla Marie Lane; along with a host of friends and other loving family members.
