John Gavin Butler, age 81, of Georgetown, Texas passed away on Friday January 6, 2023. Gavin was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on June 25, 1941, but grew up in Oklahoma City. He attended Bishop John Carroll School for first thru eighth grades and then attended Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School.
After high school, Gavin attended St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mathematics. After graduation, he joined Texaco Exploration in Bellaire, Texas working in geophysics as a programmer, supervisor and HR professional. While at Texaco, Gavin met Gail and after a courtship of 20+ years, they were married on October 9, 2004 in Houston, Texas. He was passionate about music, especially Chopin, Tchaikovsky and Liszt. With Gail, he grew to enjoy country music and gospel hymns. He also loved travel, history, games, golf and math puzzles.
Gavin is survived by his wife, Gail; his brother, Gordon Butler and wife Briann; his sister, Lucy Butler; his stepsons, Neal Kahle and wife Kirsten and Will Kahle and his wife Tammy; grandchildren, Max, Annie, Theo, Betsy, Katelyn, Jade, Lydia, and Meg; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank Amanda Herndon and all the staff at The Delaney at Georgetown Village Memory Care for their loving concern and care. They would also like to thank the staff at Suncrest Hospice, especially Carla, Carrie, Tina and Paulette for the extra care provided. You are all special people.

In honor of Gavin’s life, a memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, Texas in the Sanctuary.
