

John Douglas Marquis, born October 17, 1936, at Knox Hospital in Cleburne, Texas, to Muriel (Love) and Charlie Marquis, passed away July 3, 2025, in Walburg, TX. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love for family and friends, and a passion for life.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Muriel and Charlie Marquis; brother, Curtis; son-in-law, Art Ward; niece, Nancy Spainhour; nephew, Mark Marquis; great nephews Garrett Linch and David Dowell; and great-great nephew Tanner Resecker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carole Gene; daughter, Marile (Russell) Ritter; son, Jon Marquis; daughter, Deborah Ward; son, Charles (Jennifer) Marquis. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren: (Marile) granddaughter, Holly (Joe) Rogalski and great-grandsons, Dane, Cyrus and Franklin Barhamand; grandson, Logan Wilson; granddaughter, Britton Allee, great-granddaughter, Sonya Allee and great-grandson, Aron Allee; (Deborah) grandsons, Justin and Jordan Marquis; (Charles) grandson, Kyle (Ashley) Marquis, granddaughter, Kelsey Marquis, and grandson, Carter Marquis; sister, Nina Swink, sister-in-law, Saundra Marquis, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
John graduated from Glen Rose High School in 1955, where he was voted Most Athletic his senior year. He actively participated in football, basketball, and track, showcasing his athleticism and competitive spirit.
Beyond organized sports, John had a deep love for the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed shooting pool and dancing, especially a good jitterbug or waltz. His hobbies reflected a zest for life and a desire to enjoy the simple pleasures.
Professionally, John dedicated most of his adult life to construction, with roofing as his specialty. He was known for his strong work ethic and his willingness to tackle challenging projects. He approached his work with diligence and pride.
John believed in working hard and playing hard. His dedication to his family and friends was evident in all that he did. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 6-8 pm at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown, TX.
The Funeral Services will take place the following morning, Friday, July 11, 2025 beginning at 10 am, also at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel immediately followed by burial at Corn Hill Cemetery in Jarrell, TX. The family invites all to join them for lunch at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Parish Activity Center at 8626 FM 1105, Jarrell, TX 76537 following the services.
