John was born August 25, 1949 to Irvin and Louise (Baxter) McDuffie in Atlanta, GA. He grew up in the small towns of South Georgia. His most fond memories are of his time in White Oak. GA. John received his doctorate of Pharmacy from Mercer University in 1975 and spent almost 40 years as a hospital pharmacist. He retired from the United States Army Reserve as a LTC in 2009 after 28 years of service.
Twenty-two years ago John met Patty Wilson at his Reserve drill weekend. She became the love of his life. They spent their time together making their dreams come true.
John had a life long passion for music. Any time he heard his favorite song, Unchained Melodies, he would close his eyes, smile and move his arms as though conducting the music. He cherished roaming the North Georgia mountains on his Harley Ultra Classic. He loved the wind in is face. He looked forward to meeting his friends Terry and Tom at Hooters to drink beer, eat wings and of course flirt with the waitresses.
John loved his retirement mostly because he found a myriad of things to do and a loving and supportive group of friends to do them with. For a time John patrolled Georgetown with the COPS unit of the Georgetown Police Department. John looked forward to his weekly golf games and the many evenings drinking beer and solving the world’s problems on the driveway. He cherished traveling the world with friends and family. Most recently he was extraordinarily proud of his acceptance as a Master Mason and being selected Senior Deacon of his lodge.
John found peace in his return to the Catholic Church. He was honored to serve as an acolyte.
John is eternally grateful for the friendship of Greg and Barry who stuck with him to the very end. He cherished the visits from his masonic brothers and neighborhood friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Shriners Children's Hospital.
