

John (“Jack”) F. Roehm Jr., age 84, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012 in Georgetown, Texas. Jack was a devoted husband to his wife, Nancy, a loving father to his four children and a proud grandfather to his grandchildren. Jack was a man of honor and integrity and his wisdom and kindness will be sorely missed.
Jack was born on November 9, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Jack and Charlotte Roehm. Jack’s father was in the Army and Jack grew up all over the world. Jack attended Gulf Coast Military Academy with the hopes of attending West Point. Jack graduated as the valedictorian and received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy which he turned down in order to continue to seek an appointment to West Point. In 1946, Jack received an appointment to West Point and graduated in 1950.
Jack served in the military for thirty years and fought valiantly in two wars, Korea and Vietnam. Jack’s served his country with honor and pride. Jack received many awards and distinctions during his military career, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Some of the highlights of Jack’s military career were serving as the military attaché to the U.S. Embassy in Morocco, teaching at West Point and University of Pittsburgh, being assigned to the Third Army’s Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany and serving as senior army advisor to the North Dakota and Colorado Army National Guards.
Throughout his life, Jack’s passion for education and knowledge never ceased and through hard work and dedication, Jack obtained two master’s degrees, one in English literature and one in international affairs and a Ph.D. in international affairs.
Jack retired from the military in 1980 and he and Nancy remained in Denver. Jack began a new career working for a community action agency assisting young adults in finding employment. Jack dedicated his life in helping others better themselves. After a series of health problems, Jack retired and in the summer of 2001, he and Nancy moved to Georgetown, Texas to be close to his children.
During his illustrative life, Jack enjoyed travelling, snow skiing, tennis and attending Broadway musicals. Jack acquired a love for the theater, while attending West Point, which he passed on to his children.
Jack is survived by his wife, Nancy; his sister, Charlotte Taylor; his four children, daughter Victoria Havelka and husband David, daughter Melissa Curtis-Wellings and husband Tony, son John F. Roehm III, son David Roehm and wife Sha; and grandchildren, Trenton Rostedt and Marlee Roehm.
Join the celebration as we honor Jack’s life on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1314 E. University Avenue, Georgetown, Texas at 10 a.m. There will be a private viewing at the church between 9-9:45 a.m. prior to his service.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions to the charity of your choice.
A private military burial will be conducted for the family.
