He came to the United States when he was 18 years old and worked at Butler Brick Company in Elgin, Texas until 1991. Then Jose moved to La Junta, Colorado for 10 years where he worked with Memdita Farms growing cantaloupes, watermelon, and onions. He then moved to McDade, Texas. He started working in Lexington, Texas with Graham Cattle Company working with horses and cattle. In 2018 he was diagnosed with colon cancer and underwent chemotherapy until the end of 2023 where he was found to be cancer free. Yolanda and Jose both retired in May of 2024, but the cancer came back.
Jose is survived by his wife of 40 years, Yolanda Araujo; his daughter, Maria Araujo, and her two sons, Esteban and Nicholas of Houston; his son, Jose A Araujo Jr, his three daughters, Fernanda, Sandra, and Kimberly, and one son, Bryan, of Houston; son, David J Araujo Sr, and sons David Jr, Ethan, and daughter Alexis of Georgetown; and son,Tony Araujo of Austin.
He is also survived by his brothers, Jose Araujo of Mexico, Faustino Araujo of Elgin; sister Josefina Araujo of Round Rock; sisters Consuelo, Irma, and Beatris; also Georgina, Carlos, Jesus, and Osvaldo Araujo of Mexico; brother, Ramos Araujo and wife Julia, and their children Angelina, Rosario, Claudia, Eddy, Jorge, Jamie, and Julio. Sisters, Maria Araujo, Rafa Araujo, and Salome Araujo; and Ruben Chapa, his beloved brother-in-law, who stayed by his side.
A visitation for Jose will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas, followed by a rosary from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
