Jose Juan Castillo

rest Monday, July 15, 2019. Jose was born September 6, 1963 in Matehuala, S.L.P. Mexico to

Gonzalo Alvarez Castillo and Maria del Refugio Castillo Morán.

Over the years, Joe preceded four of his siblings proudly taking on the role of oldest brother

and protector. He attended El Colegio Amado Nervo in Matehuala during his elementary

years. Every time he got the chance he would share the “adventures”, he, Vic, and Jorge would

go on together. Most of those adventures had to do with their beloved soccer and their favorite

team, Las Aguilas del America. Joe welcomed three more siblings when the family relocated to

Miles, Texas. Joe attended Miles Jr High and graduated from Miles High School in 1984.

He moved to San Angelo and worked at Lighthouse for the Blind and the San Angelo Air Force

Base Commissary and then moved to Austin to further his education. There, he met his life

long companion, Maria Ledesma. Joe and Mari married in 1986 and began their life together in

Georgetown. They welcomed their son, Jose Adrian in 1987 and completed their family in 1992

with the birth of their daughter, Shayla Maribel.

Jose was lovingly known to many as Pico, Dad, Joe, Bro, Castillo. His proudest moment by far

was earning the title of “Grandpa” to Dominique and Adilyn. It was then that he clearly

understood when his Ama would tell him “grandchildren give you the breath of life.”

Joe cared for everyone around him and took his role of protector to another level. Joe took

tremendous pride in the 25+ years he worked at Southwestern University. He thoroughly

enjoyed his work and cared for his coworkers to the fullest. Everyone enjoyed hearing Joe’s

unique laugh, his sarcastic comebacks, his check-in calls to family and his charismatic advice.

He made his presence known by vocalizing in a tone well known to all. He never thought twice

about helping the less fortunate despite being visually impaired. He was a man of his word who

believed 100 percent in the institution of God.

Jose is survived by his wife of 32 years, Maria Castillo, son Adrian and wife Paola, daughter

Shayla and grandchildren Adrian Dominique and Adilyn Dafnie, all of Georgetown, parents

Gonzalo and Maria Castillo of Miles, siblings Victor Castillo of Miles, Jorge Castillo (Veronica),

Nelly Perez (Tomas), Martha Garcia (Arturo), Julio Castillo (Cynthia), all of San Angelo, and

Lymari Villarreal (Rolando) of Winters, in-laws Olga Sanchez, Dally Ugarte (Orlando), Anna

Martinez (Rick), Juan Ledesma (Patricia), Gabriela Ledesma, all of Georgetown, Manuel

Ledesma (Yolanda) of Mission, and Carolina Ugarte (Zocimo) of Mexico.

Preceding him in death are his paternal grandparents Tiburcio and Gregoria Castillo, maternal

grandparents Jose Vicente and Felicitas Morán, in-laws Jose and Daria Ledesma and nephew

Cesar Armando Castillo.

Pallbearers for his service will be Adrian Castillo, Shayla Castillo, Dominique Castillo, Julio

Castillo, Jorge Castillo assisted by Christian Garcia, Rolando Villarreal, Rick Martinez, and

Manuel Ledesma.
