Karen Sue Hoglan, 78, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in Round Rock, Texas, after a brief and valiant battle with ovarian cancer. She was born September 30, 1947, in Baytown, Texas, to Simmie and Sarah White.
Karen’s story with Billy Lee began over root beer. They met as teenagers at Velmire’s in her hometown of Baytown, and Billy Lee, a Crosby boy, figured out quickly that Karen White was more than a passing acquaintance. They were married on August 2, 1966, at Highlands Baptist Church, surrounded by family and friends. They kept every promise they made that day. Just weeks ago, they celebrated sixty years together.
Karen spent much of her life working before finishing her career as a rural carrier with the United States Postal Service, where she retired after years of serving her community. She and Billy Lee raised two children, built a life in Williamson County, and were neighbors to this community for 44 years. A native Texan, she carried Texas hospitality with her everywhere she went.
Karen was a quilter, and pieces of her work are folded into the homes of the people she loved. She kept a wildflower garden. She loved animals of every kind. Her horse, Copy. The dogs and the cats, the birds and the deer in her yard, and every stray that found its way to her door, whether it stayed for years or was only passing through. She treated people the same way. Whoever showed up got a good meal and a place at her table.
She loved to travel, and she went however she could. In their airplane with Billy Lee, or by car, it never mattered so long as she was going somewhere. She loved the people in her life above all, Billy Lee, her devoted husband, her family, and the friends she held close for a lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simmie and Sarah White; her brother, Belton White; her sister, Betty Joy Smith; her son, Daniel Lee Hoglan; and her great-grandson, Archer Daniel Demke.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Billy Lee Hoglan of Georgetown; her daughter, Stephanie Marie Hoglan; her granddaughter, Mandie Lee Demke, and her husband, Matthew Robert Demke; her great-grandson, Silas Lee Demke; and a wide circle of family and friends who loved her.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Davis Funeral Home on Williams Drive in Georgetown, Texas, with a funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Karen will be laid to rest at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Karen’s closest friends for their care and kindness through the years.
In lieu of flowers, Karen asked for something simpler. Hug the people you love. Take the trip you keep putting off. Take someone you love somewhere special and make the memory while you still can. Put food out for the birds and the wildlife. Plant a flower in her loving memory, and think of her when it blooms.
