
Karen Kipp Sowers, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend died from cancer Saturday, September 2, 2007, with her family by her side. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY to Vernon and Shirley Kipp. She was their only child. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School and Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. On February 1, 1969, Karen married the love of her life, Jim Sowers and they began their life together in Poughkeepsie later moving to Hyde Park, NY. In 1972 their daughter Stacey was born. Jim, Karen and Stacey moved to Georgetown, TX in the summer of 1979. She was a devoted mother always involved in her daughter’s school activities. Participating in PTA and being Homeroom Mother for Stacey’s classes. She volunteered at Georgetown Hospital as a Pink Lady. She was active in the Benevolent Protective Order if Elks locally and throughout the state of Texas. Karen loved taking care of her pond and plants all around it. She did all kinds of crafts, ceramics, and sewed. She was an amazing cook. She enjoyed planning parties which involved themes and a coordinating menu. Karen’s greatest joy was watching her granddaughter, Hunter Faith. All she wanted to do was spoil her as much as possible. Karen is survived by her husband, Jim, daughter, Stacey and her husband, Jeff Cardwell. Granddaughter, Hunter Faith Cardwell, all of Georgetown. Extended family are Martha Ann Fineman-Sowers, Lillian Fineman and Zack, all of Georgia. Amy Condo of New Jersey. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 2pm in the Gabriel’s Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Selle officiating. Memorial contributions can be honored to the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life in Williamson County.
