I want to extend my most sincere condolences to Leon's family. Leon holds a special place in my heart and I will miss him terribly. We were co-workers but became fast friends as well and he helped me through some really tough times with his no holds barred opinions and his sense of humor. He would surprise me  with a Dunkin Donuts coffee and donuts just because. I could go on and on about how helpful and thoughtful he was to so many. I am so very thankful that I had the privilege to know him and be called a friend. Rest easy, Leon. You made a difference in so many lives.

As I look at all these pictures of my friend it makes me so sad to have lost such an incredible person. I’d make him food and bring it to him and he’d tell me “boy if you wasn’t married” lol. I decorated the kiosk for his birthdays and he’d say “Andrea you didn’t have to do that” little did he know I just loved to make him smile and laugh. He was such a good person to me and we’d have such great conversations where he taught me things and I think I opened his eyes to others.  We made each other laugh so hard sometimes and I’m just going to miss him so, so much. Leon I’m going to remember you always my friend. 

I will greatly miss Leon.  HEB’s gas station has never been the same since Leon retired.  He was always so kind and helpful.   He would even come out sometimes and pump my gas for me.  Plus, he never failed to ask how Clifton ( my husband) was doing. 
I just saw him about a  week ago at the HEB Plus as we were both getting gas.  I hugged him and asked how he was doing.  I said,  Leon, you look like you’ve lost weight.  He just didn’t seem to be himself. I’m so glad I gave him a hug that night. 
My heart is so saddened over his loss. 
Please know Vaughn family that I will be praying for Gods comfort and peace over you.

My deepest sympathy to the whole family. I am saddened to hear of the loss of a most beloved man and former HEB partner.  Leon was a joy to be around. He was always so kind and friendly. We talked, joked and laughed when we had the chance. I loved hearing his stories. He always made me smile. Shoot he was the kind of person that made your heart smile. My heart will continue to smile everytime I think of him. I will miss him  his great personality and wonderful smile too.  Rest in peace dear soul. 

Leon was truly a wonderful individual to work with.  He always had a great story to share with you.  If you went out to get gas for your car, he would step out, either to pump the gas or just say Hello.  You will be greatly missed friend, rest in peace and daily prayers will be said for your precious family. 

Leon was a man of integrity and grace. Anytime I had a problem I could rely on his advice and cool head to straighten me out and help me fly right. He gave without expecting anything in return. I’m sorry for everyone who has lost this wonderful man, he lives in all our hearts.

I don't even know how to begin I'm deeply sadden by this news he was a good man with a big heart he loved his kids and grandchildren. I loved hearing his stories,  one in particular was about exlax 🤣🤣 and some kids throwing rocks at the horses. He will definitely be missed. 

There are so many memories that deserve to be told remembering Leon. He was such a great man. Top of the line. 

A memory that I think about often (every time I get gas) - one day I had stopped by to get gas with an ex boyfriend and I went to pay Leon - he got up from his chair, walked out hugged me, then told me “Don’t you ever be with a man that doesn’t get out and pump that gas for you.” And shortly after I broke up with that guy and ever since held my standards much higher than I had before. Leon changed my life in a lot of ways - I miss him dearly.

Man oh man... where to even begin... you have such a special place in my heart. We'd talk on and on for years about life, love and more importantly expectations. That I needed to find stuff that made me happy, needed to find love, and not work so much to the point where it'd blind me from it.  You helped keep my head on my shoulders more often than not. If I was having a bad day, you were always a shoulder to lean on and you'd just find ways to smooth things out. All I'd have to do is come see you at the gas station and we'd talk. You didn't treat me as someone that was well younger than you,  you treated me as a younger brother as I looked up to you as an older one. We always picked on one another, throwing insults at one another while people gasped at what we were saying especially with me throwing every old age joke at you that I could come up with on the fly. And the one thing you always told me..."You're only alive because I like your mom" You always told me to love my mom because it's something you never really got to experience as a child. There's one thing I can definitely promise you Leon..and it's the advice you gave to me 7 years ago. I will ALWAYS love hard and take care of those around me, especially my mother.. Rest in Paradise my brother... may we meet again..

Leon, I just saw you and we were laughing and joking like old times. You were a very special man and always made me feel special and loved. You had the best jokes, stories and were so easy to talk to about anything and everything. I just can't believe you are gone. My heart is truly broken and I know you would tell me not to cry but I cant seem to stop. I will miss you so much! It was truly an honor and a blessing to have known you. Love you Leon ❤ 

I have worked with Leon for the past 14 years.  He was a wonderful person to work with. I loved his stories and jokes.  // Many peayers to you all , his family,  for strength and peace. //

You were an amazing person who always told me the real truth. Thank you for believing in me when no one else did. Praying for your family, those grandkids! Heaven just received another angel.

I met Leon a few years ago through my son. In talking to him for the first time, there wasn't the manner of having just met. It was more like the old friend he hadn't talked to in awhile.  Not many people have that gift.  It was always a pleasure to see him. He will be missed.

I just heard that you passed away...

I feel numb and can't even find words.

You always talked about Beau and Tracey like a proud father! No doubt, they will miss you so much.

Dear Leon,  
I was shocked and saddened to hear that you had passed away.  It seems like only yesterday that you retired from HEB.  I have really missed seeing you and talking to you in HEB at night.  You were reading President Obama's new book during some of the last conversations we had.  We were both Democrats and admirers of Barack and Michelle Obama.  I know you are missed by many of us who knew and loved you at HEB.  You were one of those larger than life people who are kind and wise and very special.

I know you’re lookin down right now telling me to stop being a damn baby. I know you don’t want any sympathy and especially me to feel sorry for you. Just please know that I’ve always missed our conversations about life and love and growing up and also messing up. Thank you for always making me laugh and your damn welcome for me making you laugh. Leon, I hope you know how many lives you touched with your kindness, advice & care. Many tears are falling at Austin 14 & you will always be in our hearts. To the family, he was a very special  man, loved by many, you are in our thoughts & prayers.
