Lilia Islas de Botello, known and loved as Wa, was born on February 25, 1939, in Mexico City. She passed away on September 18, 2026, leaving a legacy of style, laughter, generosity, and stories that her family will keep telling.
She spent 40 years alongside her husband, Enrique, and raised their five children- Lilly, and her husband Mays, Patricia, Enrique, and his wife Ma. Lu, and Alex, and Jeannette-in Mexico. Later, she made a home in the United States, first in California and then in Texas, where the family continued to grow across generations.
A real estate agent by profession, Wa had a natural way with people. She was an avid reader, a devoted golfer, and someone who never underestimated the importance of a beautiful outfit. Golf gave her adventure, companionship, and many friendships over the years.
Her happiest pleasures were often the simple ones:preparing something sweet in the kitchen, tending to her houseplants, walking outdoors, orgoing de paseo around town to browse shop windows and enjoy the day. She also had a sharp ear for a good story- and always appreciated a little chisme.
Wa had her own relationship with time. She did not rush for appointments or occasions; she arrived when she was ready, fully herself and worth the wait. That was part of her charm. She is survived by her children Lilly, Patricia, Enrique, and Jeannette: her son Alex preceded her in death. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alexis, Patricia, Gustavo, Jenny, Alessandra, and Stefano. Her grandchild Mays preceded her death.
She will be remembered for the way she brought personality to every room, found joy in everyday pleasures, and made family, friendship, and a well-lived life feel like something to celebrate.
