

Patricia Elizabeth Atkinson Sawyer, 93, went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, June 3, 2015 at Stoney Brook Elder Care in Copperas Cove, Texas after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Florence, Texas. Visitation will be on Friday, June 5, 2015 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Reverend Mark McBride of Florence and Reverend Troy Allen of Bryan will officiate the service with burial at Florence City Cemetery in Florence, Texas.
“Liz” was born on April 17, 1922 to Amy Beatrice and Herman Atkinson. She was the 7th of 10 children. The family moved to Hamlin and Littlefield for a time and then settled in Florence when Liz was 10. She graduated from Florence High School and married the love of her life, Wilford “Saw” Sawyer on August 16, 1942. She found the Lord and was baptized at the age of 12. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Florence until she suffered a stroke in 2012. Though the years, she held many positions at her church, and was especially devoted to her Alathian Sunday School class. Liz was a correspondent for the Austin American, Killeen Daily Herald and Temple Telegram for many years as well as being an election judge and Avon representative. In her retirement years, she was an accomplished award winning artist and loved having a booth at craft shows. She loved meeting new people, going to family reunions, spending time with her family, and helping others.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, a son, Stacy Sawyer, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Elizabeth Cantwell and husband, Randall of Oakalla, Texas, and two grandsons, Travis Shay Cantwell and wife, Ratha and Jonathan Kyley Cantwell of Austin, Texas. Her pride and joy was her great granddaughter, Lily Grace Cantwell. Also surviving are two sisters, Billie Fern Goertiz of Harrisburg, Arkansas and Jacquita White of Ft. Worth, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Wes Hansel, Stayton Thompson, Lyle McAndrews, Kenneth Brizendine, Phil Kelz, Dean Taylor, Gilbert Brooks, and John Gower.
