Lola Marette Atkins

Lola Marette Atkins, 95, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on March 8, 2011. She was born to Charles and Mary Ann Ham (Frambes) Wenrick on January 19, 1916 in Philadelphia, PA. Lola married Richard Atkins on June 12, 1936 at Gaston Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, PA. They spent 49 years together and he preceded her in death in 1985.

Lola was born and raised in Philadelphia, later moving to Riverside, NJ. She and Richard then retired to sunny Haines City, FL where they enjoyed many happy years together. She moved out to Texas, in 1995, to be closer to her family. Throughout her life, she loved to travel, bowl, golf, swim and play cards with friends. She had a knack for growing plants and enjoyed tending to her garden. Lola was very active and independent, volunteering and driving until she was 90. She enjoyed volunteering and meeting people at Handicrafts Unlimited in downtown Georgetown, attending functions with a Red Hats group of Round Rock and with the Solo’s of Wellspring Methodist Church.

Lola loved her family. She had one son, Richard E. Atkins, also of Georgetown, TX, who preceded her in death in 2006. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Eileen Atkins of Georgetown, TX, her grandson, Keith R. Atkins, and his wife Elaine of Loveland, CO, her granddaughter, Shelly A. Harrington-King of Austin, TX, and four great-grandchildren; Ryan Atkins of Chicago, IL, Matthew Atkins of Loveland, CO, Emily Harrington and Benjamin King of Austin, TX.

Her family would like to thank the Wesleyan Nursing Home at Scenic for their care and patience over the past four years.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Wellspring United Methodist Church in Georgetown, Texas. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Employees’ Recognition Fund at the Wesleyan Nursing Home at Scenic, 2001 Scenic Drive, Georgetown, TX 78626.
