Born March 28th, 1946 in Houston, TX, she was the daughter of James and Arla Faye Dee. She will be joining her husband, Milton Ray Hammer and sister, Beverly Patrice Shearer.
She is survived by her children, Michele Hammer and partner Sherry Fairclough, son, Milton Ray Hammer, Jr. and wife, Wanda Hammer, daughter, Patrice Hollenshead and spouse, Kevin Hollenshead and daughter, Tiffany Toper and spouse Raymond Toper. Grandchildren include Stephanie Hernandez, Cody Hammer, Sydney Hammer, Ryan Hollenshead, Ian Hollenshead, Tyler Toper and Ethan Toper. Great Grandchildren include Skyler Hebert, Tristan Hammer, Berklee Hernandez and Lakelyn Hernandez.
Margaret attended Smiley High School, Houston, TX. She received her Bachelors from Sam Houston State, Huntsville, TX. She continued her education to receive her Master and PhD in Education from Texas A&M, College Station. She taught in the Aldine School District, Houston, TX for 20 years and then moved to Sam Houston State, Huntsville, TX and Midwestern University, Wichita Falls, TX until retirement.
She received the Presidential Teaching Award from President Bill Clinton, as well as recognition at the Texas State level for her accomplishments. Above all else, education was her passion.
Her life’s celebration will occur on October 31st, 2020, 11 am, at the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home located at 2900 Williams Dr. Georgetown, TX 78628.
Donations to the Marfan Foundation (www.marfan.org) on behalf of Margaret Hammer are requested in lieu of flowers. She suffered from Marfan Syndrome and it is not a well-known disorder. She promoted this organization to gain awareness. She was the first family member to be officially diagnosed. Had there been more awareness, other family members would have received the proper medical treatment.
