Margery “Peggy” Inez Slagle Heath, age 81, passed away on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, at Seton Medical Center in Austin, TX. She was born in Raeford, NC to parents Robert and Margaret Slagle. Peggy spent her childhood in Raeford and Charlotte, NC. After graduating from nursing school, she moved to Houston and worked at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Peggy was a nurse for some of the earliest open-heart surgeries. For those of you that know Peggy, you know how proud she was to be a nurse.
While in Houston, she met the love of her life, Donald Eugene Heath. Donald and Peggy were married in 1966. Both Don and Peggy’s work took the Heath family all over the country from Iowa to Kansas, and finally back to the great state of Texas in 1982. Peggy became the Director of the Operating Room at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler, TX. Peggy worked for Mother Francis for over 16 years. In that time, she earned her MBA and retired as a hospital Vice President. She was a strong, intelligent, and independent woman, well ahead of her time. (#girlboss)
Peggy is survived by her son, Donald L Heath and wife Christa of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Alexis Heath, Ashley Winterbottom, Kendall Heath, and Peyton Heath; nieces and nephews: Nikki Davidson, Chris Jordan, Karen Morrison Heath, Valerie Williams, Bill Heath and their families. Peggy was preceded in Death by her husband Donald Eugene Heath, her son Alex (Bill) Heath, parents Margaret and Robert Slagle, and sister Patricia Slagle.
Peggy was passionate about her family, her faith and the many pets they had over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, walking with her group in Fredericksburg, and painting. As a family, we feel the best way to describe Peggy: dignified, elegant and a loving person who will be dearly missed.
A memorial service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral home, 2900 Williams Drive in Georgetown, Texas. A reception will follow the service.
