Mary Louise Furtner passed away gently, surrounded by her family, on March 3, 2021. Mary Louise was born on October 7,1936, in Elmira, New York, the daughter of Thomas Francis and Agnes (Marchinock) Feeney.
After graduation from Elmira Free Academy in 1954, Mary Louise moved to Washington, D.C., where she was employed by The George Washington University in the Office of Alumni Relations. Mary Louise met Ralph Furtner at GW and they were married April 13, 1957. After their 23 year career in the United States Air Force and a period of residency in Virginia, Mary Louise and Ralph settled in Georgetown, Texas.
Mary Louise will be forever remembered for her kindness, generosity, and devotion to family. She loved animals and was always sensitive to persons in need. Mary Louise's strength and resilience were especially critical to the family during Ralph's extended periods of service in Vietnam and Europe.
Mary Louise is survived by her husband Col. Ralph W. Furtner, USAF, Ret.; children Julia Akin (Harry), Eric Furtner, CDR Thomas Furtner, USNR, Ret. (Jo Ellen), Suzanne Broccolo (widow of Fred); grandchildren Christopher Broccolo, Lt. Ryan Furtner, USN, Lauren Furtner, Patrick Broccolo and Evan Furtner; and great granddaughters Everleigh Broccolo and Lenox Broccolo.
The family will hold a private service at Ft. Sam Houston National Military Cemetery at a later date and requests that in lieu of other remembrances, donations in Mary Louise's memory be made to the City of Georgetown Animal Shelter, 110 W.L. Walden Dr., Georgetown, Texas 78626.
