Mary Anne Zurek

Mary Anne Zurek, 89, arrived home to her Father in Heaven on August 29, 2021. Mary Anne was born May 15, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to William and Anna Jeffery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard and their two sons, Mark and David.

After graduating from Loretto High School, she began studying nursing, when she met the love of her life, Leonard Zurek on a blind date. Mary Anne chose to leave nursing school, get married on March 8, 1952, and follow her true love to San Antonio, Texas where Len was stationed in the Army.

Two years later, they moved to the Northwest suburbs of Chicago and began raising their family. Mary Anne was a devoted mother to their 5 children, Mark (Cherie), Kristine (Leighton Kidder), Matthew (Molly), David and Steven (Connie).

Mary Anne dedicated her life to her family. Her 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews all loved her quick wit, humor and appreciated her unceasing prayers for each of them. Besides love of family, she and Len so loved the Lord and dedicated many years to the church in so many aspects including singing in the choir, volunteering at a Women’s Shelter for unwed mothers, Andice’s 4th of July Festival, The Caring Place in Georgetown, quilt making for Fort Hood’s Wounded Warriors, and volunteering with the Knight’s Auxillary (with Knights of Columbus) where she would cook and bake, quilt, cross stitch and make ceramics for many fun raising benefits. She was well known for her amazing cheesecakes!

She leaves behind a legacy of love beyond measure that will be a source of our strength now. She leaves with us her values, her love of Jesus and the importance of a daily connection with Him and her care and unceasing love and compassion for her family and friends. She will live in our hearts forever.

A memorial service for Mary will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church, Andice, Texas.
