He met the love of his life Linda Auldridge in San Angelo, TX where they lived and married October 7,1966. They were married for 57 years. After marriage, Melvin enlisted in the US National Guard and started a long career in construction.
After his discharge, he began his career in the late 60’s as a Land Surveyor starting as a rodman, before working his way up to crew chief. Melvin worked as a Land Surveyor for close to 14 years before moving onto Civil Engineering projects for the next 40 years in Texas, Louisiana, and Colorado. He was Lead Construction Inspector on the longest airport runway expansion in the United States at the Denver International Airport in Denver Colorado. Senior Field Representative working with US Army Corps of Engineers and Hurricane Protection Office on a $1.3 billion dollar project which was the largest civil works design build in USACE history and in close association with repair and refurbishment of the New Orleans levies after sustaining significant damage due to Hurricane Katrina. Melvin was highly regarded for his invaluable insight and knowledge with civil engineering projects within the TXDOT community. Melvin had high standards and took a lot of pride in his work.
Melvin was an avid sports fan of all kinds in his spare time. He kept up with it year-round and always had an opinion for conversation. He also enjoyed fishing and playing golf when he could find time. And coached his sons when they were in sports.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda Auldridge, and two sons. Michael and his wife Beverly as well as Chad and his wife Katie. Melvin also had three grandchildren that he doted on. Alyssa, Tyler and Ellie Mae, Brother-in-Law Ronald Fuller and wife Peg.
Want to thank Dr. Patel and staff at Texas Oncology in Round Rock, TX for taking such good care of him. For the last 2 ½ years. They were our angels.
We will never forget you dear and have so many wonderful memories and stories to laugh about while we were together and we know you will be watching over us from Heaven. Thank you for all the years we had together.
