He was preceded in death by his parents, Eula Fay and Samuel Elmer Thorp; great grandson, William Douglas Beard; son, Russell Edwin Thorp; and brothers, John and William (Bill).
Mickey is survived by his wife of 63 years, Faye; two sons, Doug and Troy; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two siblings, David Lee Thorp and Elizabeth Ann Crabb.
Mickey was a hard worker who began his oilfield career at the age of 17 and stayed in that profession until he retired. He rose from the ranks from roughneck to driller, and then pusher to company man. After he retired from the oilfield, he and his wife reopened Barth’s Restaurant in Kennedy, Texas and operated it for approximately 10 years before selling and officially retiring.
Mickey loved to be with his wife, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He loved to hunt, fish and camp. He liked to travel to the mountains of Colorado. He was a man of simple taste and who was loved by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church 4010 Williams Drive in Georgetown, Texas with Pastor Barbra Sonnen-Hernandez officiating. A catered reception will follow the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall.
