
Omer Eugene (Gene) Inman, age 86, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015, in Georgetown, Texas. He was born on a farm near Bedford, Indiana on January 28, 1929, to Ola Norman Inman and Margaret Amanda Hawkins Inman. He was the youngest of five children and is predeceased by his sister Alice Marie Speer and his brother Robert Inman. His sisters Juanita Graves and Marjorie Jordan live in Indianapolis, Indiana. Gene married the love of his life, Lois Ilene Hendrich on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1954. Gene was raised on the farm near Bedford through the eighth grade and then moved into town. He graduated from Bedford High School and worked a year before attending Vallejo College in California, later transferring to the School of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and then the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) where he received his BFA in June 1955. In between his college years he served two years in the Army during the Korean War. After graduation Gene worked on the MCAD- staff for five years before beginning his sales and management career in the music business. He worked for the Schmitt Music Co. for fifteen years in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, then Cannon Music in Florida for two years, and finally Steinway & Sons for fifteen years in Florida, Colorado Springs and New York City, finishing as Vice President of Retail Sales and Marketing and General Manager of Steinway Hall in New York City. Gene was an accomplished painter and sculptor. His work was shown for many years in Atlanta, Colorado and Texas in both open and juried exhibitions, and he received many awards for his work. In addition, his home and those of his family and friends are richly decorated with his works of art. Gene was very active in the church. He and Lois were highly regarded for their hospitality, and their home was frequently filled with guests for meals, meetings and get-togethers. He was respected as a leader and served for several years as an elder in Minneapolis, Colorado Springs and Georgetown. They were members of the Central and Richfield Churches of Christ in Minneapolis before helping start the one in Brooklyn Center, where he was eventually appointed as one of the elders. They were also active members of Orange Park Church of Christ in Florida, Eastside Church of Christ in Colorado Springs, Stamford Church of Christ in Connecticut, and Georgetown Church of Christ in Texas. He also served as a board member of the Pikes Peak Christian School in Colorado Springs. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lois; his son and wife Eric and Karen Inman; his son and wife Kris and Marci Inman; his daughter and husband Kara and Francisco Perez; and his daughter and husband Joyce and Jon Hendrix. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lisa, David, and Kelsey Inman; Chase and wife Amy Inman; Eliana, Larissa, and Angelia Perez; and Fox, Scout, and Sailor Hendrix. A memorial service for Mr. Inman will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at 1:30 pm at the Georgetown Church of Christ, 1525 W University Ave, Georgetown, TX 78628. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Cards with a favorite memory of Gene are also welcome.
