Oscar G. Garza Jr., 58, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 9, 2020, after a two year battle with liver cancer.

He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1984, and lived in Pflugerville, where he worked at Harte Hanks as a Database Administrator. While he hated the Austin traffic, he loved the city of the Texas Longhorns. He was an avid sports lover, and a die hard Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and Longhorns fan. He was the most ethical, right fighter ever known by those who knew him. Gone too soon, he has left an amazing legacy - a great brother, amazing uncle, and a loyal friend to so many. No matter how old he got, he would greet those close to him not by name, but with “fart knocker” and other silly names that he would make up on the spot. He was a big kid, and oh so smart!

Oscar is survived by his mother Elia Garza, and his siblings, Pearl (Adolfo) Beltran, David (Glenda) Garza, Bea Garza, Jaime (Elvia) Garza, Patricia (Chris) Armitage, and Jessica (David) Garza. Oscar was a loving uncle to Angela Beltran, Jennifer Beltran, Vanessa Beltran, Stephanie Norris, Jaime Garza Jr., Natalie Garza, Valerie Garza, Andie Armitage and Cole Armitage. He will be dearly missed.

The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown with funeral services to follow at 2:00 P.M. Social distancing procedures will be in place for the visitation and funeral service.

Oscar’s last wishes were to donate to St. Jude and to The V Foundation in order to continue the fight against Cancer.

My condolences to the Garza family. I remember growing up with him in the neighborhood on Yale St. We had fun times playing out in the street in front of our houses. RIP.

It was my privilege to work with Oscar at Harte-Hanks for many years. He was an excellent work companion and showed enthusiasm and competence when tackling our assignments.

Oscar was very generous and was always one of the first to contribute when we raised money for colleagues needing assistance.

Oscar was a wonderful person who lived a good life.
Everyone at Harte-Hanks liked Oscar and he will be missed.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Oscar’s family for your loss.

I am saddened to hear of Oscars passing. My condolences Pearl, and to all the families! I have no one memory, but remember the many from High school, but mostly when we would all gather on the street in front of the house! The days of no cell phones! When we all walked to each other’s houses and picked each other up! Oscar, Pearl, Adolfo, Carlos, Jerry, JT, Rene, and others, would hang out and throw the ball around, or get ready to walk to wherever we were about to challenge in football! You are remembered! Rest easy Oscar my old friend!

He was always joyful, carried around that big smile and laugh. Great guy to work with. And it was always good to run into him and spend a few minutes catching up. He will be missed.

Uncle Oscar was a beautiful person. He was kind and he was a good man. I remember him always being a big goof. I loved messing with him and laughing at him and he’d look at me and say “farty.” Or “fartknocker.” He was just fun to be around. Anytime I’d see him, I’d hug him and he would welcome me with a “‘Gelu!” (Short for Angeluuu) I can just hear him say it now so clearly. One of my favorite memories with Uncle Oscar is when my mom, Oscar, and I took the drive down Hwy 1 to Big Sur from Mountain View, CA. We stopped by Carmel beach and went to the aquarium. I still remember all the “oohs” and “ahhs” we shared overlooking those cliffs into the ocean. He loved being around his family and I am grateful for so many good memories with him. Will miss you dearly Uncle. 💙
