Patty (Pat) Cormick, 79, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, December 26, 2024 (on her father’s birthdate). Pat was born July 23, 1945 in Hayward, California but her youth was spent in the LA area, including Interior Design at Cerritos Jr College.
She is survived by her husband Ron, three children and five grandchildren: daughter Melanie Carlson (husband Dan) of Georgetown, TX, and and their three children, Austin (wife Sarah), Spencer and Hannah; son Eric (wife Jessica) Cormick of Tomball TX, and his two children, Samantha (husband Trevor) Tennant and Andrew Cormick of Liberty Hill TX; and daughter Lisa (Matthew) Cormick of Spokane WA. Also, Pat’s brother-in-law Gerald (wife Jeannie, née Davies) Cormick of Mill Creek, WA; with son Larry (wife Kris) of Monroe, WA with their six children, Danny (née Madison), Chase (wife Camneilie), Payne, Pierce, Reed, and Faith-Caroline; and son Brian (wife Michelle) with their two children, Kyle and Victoria. Also, Bob Jr's widow, Patti Davey of Fischer TX, and Bob Jr's two sons (with 1st wife Terry), Jeremy (wife Michelle) with their two children Blake and Dailyn, and Shawn Eckerd.
Pat was preceded in death by all of her immediate family: both parents, Robert (Bob) and Leila Eckerd, her sister, Linda Lee Cormick, and her brother, Bob Jr.
Sisters Pat and Linda Eckerd married brothers, Ron and Gerald (Jerry) Cormick. Gerald and Linda married first in LA so Pat and Ron married in Vancouver, Canada on August 22, 1966, to balance the parental load. Pat and Ron moved immediately to Pennsylvania, first at Bethlehem (Lehigh University) and then State College (Penn State). While Ron completed his graduate schooling, Pat patiently obtained a PhT (Put hubby Through), working at both universities.
In January 1973, they moved to Ponca City, OK, where Ron worked in Conoco Research. In September, on her cousin Larry’s birthday, Melanie made Pat a mother, a role Pat cherished for a lifetime. Eric was added in 1977, and Lisa (our sole Texan) was added shortly after the family moved to Houston in 1983. Pat’s folks moved from CA to OK to TX to be with Pat and Ron’s growing family, eventually moving in with Pat and Ron in 1991. They gifted Pat with all the training and skills of grandparenting, just in time for Melanie and Dan to start the next generation with Austin’s arrival in 1995. Melanie (Dan) and Eric (Alysha) provided four more grandchildren, putting Pat’s nurturing into super high gear. She loved her grandchildren fiercely.
All during their married life, Pat and Ron closely bonded with Laverna (Ron’s sister) and husband, Mark Wong, traveling together, loving and doting on children and grandchildren.
Through good times and bad, sickness and health, Pat’s greatest joy was the decision she made in 1965 to serve the Lord with all her mind, heart, soul and strength. That joy was closely followed by her love for family and friends. During her healthy years, Pat and Ron’s home was a gathering place for the young friends in the North Houston area and beyond. Though she was most skilled at interior design, miniature crafts and motherhood, Pat loved music. Pat and Ron’s home rang of music for decades. She even passed while listening to her favorite hymns.
A memorial service for Pat will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628. This service will be live-streamed at https://vimeo.com/event/4815600. A reception will follow the service from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
