April 4, 1967 – June 27, 2026
It is with profound sadness, yet deep gratitude for a life filled with faith, love, laughter, and family, that we announce the passing of Phillip Neil Gonzalez, who entered into eternal rest on June 27, 2026, at the age of 59.
Phillip Neil Gonzalez was born on April 4, 1967, in Austin, Texas. Throughout his 59 years, he built a life rooted in faith, family, laughter, and love. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, United States Army veteran, loyal friend, and a man whose kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Phillip will be remembered for his warm heart, contagious smile, quick wit, and his remarkable ability to make people laugh. Whether he was telling one of his many jokes or laughing the loudest at his own punchline, he had a gift for bringing joy wherever he went.
Phillip proudly served his country in the United States Army, carrying with him a quiet strength, resilience, and deep sense of pride throughout his life.
If you knew Phillip, you knew football. Above all else, he was a die-hard Texas Longhorns football fan. Saturdays during football season were sacred to him, and he simply did not miss a Longhorn game. Family and friends knew not to expect him to be anywhere else when the Longhorns were playing. Win or lose, he proudly stood behind his beloved Longhorns every single week. Beyond his love for Texas football, he faithfully cheered for the Houston Texans, Minnesota Vikings, and Philadelphia Eagles. As a young man, Phillip loved playing basketball, baseball, and football, and later spent many years playing softball with his friends. One of his greatest joys was watching his son, Matthew, compete in sports and proudly cheering him on from the stands.
Of all the blessings in Phillip’s life, none meant more to him than his family. He is survived by his beloved son, Matthew Gonzalez; daughter-in-law, Kimberley Ahumada; and his cherished grandchildren, Arianna and Matthew, who brought him endless pride and happiness. His family was the center of his world, and his love for them was constant, unconditional, and evident in everything he did.
Phillip taught those closest to him the importance of resilience, appreciating life’s simple moments, and making time for the people you love. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with his family—whether enjoying a day at the pool, visiting the park, playing outside, or simply sharing laughter together. Those moments became cherished memories that will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
His faith in God was the foundation of his life. Phillip loved attending Shoreline Church whenever he was able and faithfully watched services online when he could not be there in person. His relationship with Christ gave him hope, peace, and comfort throughout every season of life.
Anyone who knew Phillip also knew his appreciation for good food. He especially loved Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine, with Casa Garcia’s being one of his favorite restaurants, and he never passed up the chance to enjoy breakfast at Cracker Barrel.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Gonzalez and Maria Elena Hyatt; his sister, Elena Gonzales Callis; his maternal grandparents, Maria Rodriguez Reyes and Fedel Reyes Sr.; his paternal grandmother, Pauline Reyes Pineda, who lovingly helped raise him; and his step-grandfather, Miguel Pineda, who also played a significant role in raising him.
He is survived by his siblings: Rita Gonzales-Bush (James), Richard Gonzales Jr. (Jeff), Michael Gonzalez (Vivian), Rosemary Villanueva (Steve), Paul Gonzales, Frank Gonzales, Joe Fred Gonzales, Tomas Gonzales, James Calvo, Janice, and Marisol, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, lifelong friends, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Phillip will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his infectious laughter, his love of football, and, above all, the love he gave so freely to his family and friends. Even during life’s challenges, Phillip chose joy. He found reasons to smile, laugh, and lift others up, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, resilience, and hope that will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Phillip’s greatest legacy was not simply the life he lived, but the love he shared, the laughter he created, and the family he cherished with all his heart. The measure of his life was never found in the years he lived, but in the countless lives he touched and the memories he created with those fortunate enough to know and love him.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Phillip has found eternal peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior, reunited with those who went before him.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
Phillip will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
