

Phillip’s career included over thirty years as a cartographer with the Texas Department of Transportation. He built a comfortable life for his family in Austin before moving to Georgetown in 1987. In his retirement his passions turned to gardening and woodworking. Phillip cherished time spent with his family and took them to interesting places on vacation. He taught them life skills and how to live a good life, setting an excellent example for others to follow. He enjoyed the family ranch and passed that love of the land to his family. Phillip was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Georgetown and an advocate for Cross Trails Ministry. He loved deeply and was deeply loved.
In addition to his parents, August and Elsie Schmidt, Phillip is predeceased by his brother Dorman Schmidt, his sister Opal Rode, and nephew Michael Rode.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Joanna Scherer Schmidt, son Gregory and his wife Katherine , daughter Karen Zarsky and her husband Mark , grandchildren Travis Zarsky , Sean Zarsky and his wife Hannah Faith, Walter Schmidt, Hannah Schmidt, niece Adotia Rode, nephew Dan Miller, and great grandson Lyle Jay Zarsky.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Christ Lutheran Church, Georgetown, Texas.
