Raymond (Frank) Ashby of Weir, Texas, passed away at his home on March 7, 2014 at the age of 77, after a long fight with cancer. Frank was born on July 2, 1936 at Youngsport, Texas to Joel Hermon Ashby and Vera Laverne (Coffman) Ashby. He attended school at Florence, Briggs, and Jarrell. He married Florence Ruth Teinert on August 22, 1959 at the Church of Christ in Georgetown, Texas, and lived in Weir for the past 47 years. Frank and Florence had three children, Allen, Joyce, and Keith.
Frank spent much of his life working in the grocery business. He worked at Piggly-Wiggly, HEB and various convenience stores. He also worked at Caswell Service station, Southwestern University, Weir Grain and Elevator and Wal-mart.
Frank loved going to garage sales, refinishing furniture, buying and selling at Grandma's House of Treasures. He enjoyed garden work, working in the yard, planting flowers and shrubs and playing with his dog "Pepper."
Frank was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ila Ashby.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Ashby of Weir; three children daughter, Joyce and husband Gary Adams of Temple and sons, Keith Ashby and wife Misty of Weir and Allen Ashby and wife Kim of Georgetown; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Pearson of Humble, Josh Ashby and Fiancé Jay-sie of Weir, Wesley Welborn and wife Holli of Round Rock, Aaron Brooks and husband Clint of Buda, Jessica Sanders and husband Nolan of Evant, Alyson Ashby of Georgetown and Austin Ashby of Georgetown; five great grandchildren, Toby Pearson of Weir, Waverly Welborn of Round Rock, Jordan Brooks of Buda, Cody Brooks of Buda and Ethan Hightower of Evant; sister, Tempie Banard and husband George of Georgetown; brother, J.H. Ashby and wife Cleo of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to David Pierce for all his support and visits. Frank and David spent many hours at the hospital and rehab. They played dominos and had many supportive conversations, which Frank enjoyed very much. Frank also enjoyed going to garage sales with David before getting so sick.
Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in the Chapel of the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, with Pastor John Selle of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Weir Cemetery in Weir.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Pierce, Maurice Adams, Lyndon Stearns, Randy Pearson, Robbie Sawyer, Mike Pursley, Art Soto and Patrick Hodgkiss.
