Sally Marie Moellenberndt, 81, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away surrounded by love. She was born on June 18, 1944, in Binkelman, Nebraska, to John and Myrtle Banister. She grew up in Dallas, Texas, where she graduated from Sunset High School in 1962.
Sally served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1965. In her early adulthood she lived in many different places, building her independence and strength along the way. In 1976, while working at Metro Medical Supply, she met a pharmacist from the business next door, a man who would become the love of her life, Darold Moellenberndt. The two married on August 5, 1978, and shortly after made their home in Georgetown, Texas, where they built their life together.
Family was the center of Sally’s world. She was a devoted mother to her three children: Ken Sutton, Matt Sutton, and Lyndsey Reed. She loved to play cards and dominoes, enjoyed reading, and rarely missed her favorite TV shows, especially mysteries (the British ones most of all), westerns, cooking shows, and, of course, true crime. Though she had three children of her own, Sally was a second mother to many of their friends over the years. She and Darold welcomed countless “stray teens” into their home, offering them warmth, guidance, and a safe place to land. She loved all of her “kids,” whether by birth or by life’s design.
Sally began working for H-E-B in the early 1990s and retired in 2008. After retirement, she spent several treasured years caring for her daughter’s children before they began school. Only then did she allow herself to fully, truly retire.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrtle; her beloved sister, Mickey; her niece Michele; and her loving husband, Darold, who passed away on October 29, 2023. She is survived by her children, Ken, Matt, and Lyndsey, and their spouses, her niece Mary, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and loved ones who will forever carry her memory.
A memorial service to celebrate Sally’s life will be held at The Gabriel’s Funeral Home, 393 N IH 35 in Georgetown, Texas, on Saturday, November 22 at 12 p.m. Following the service, the family invites everyone to gather at the Moellenberndt home at 2701 CR 152 to eat (as Sally would insist) and share stories in celebration of a life beautifully lived.
