Sherry Pruitt Brown of Austin Texas set sail to be with her heavenly father on Thursday October 23, 2025. Sherry was born August 28, 1941 in Abilene Texas to F.M. Pruitt and Rose Dale Pruitt, raised in Abilene.
Sherry graduated from Abilene High School in 1959, and then attended Abilene’s Draughns Business College. After 10 months in 1960 she landed a job interview at the Texas Highway Department, Abilene district office, where she accepted the secretarial position. July of 1965 she gave birth to her beautiful daughter Monique Farr. In 1969 she transferred to the Austin Texas Highway Department. In 1977 she joined Allandale Baptist Church which is now known as Great Hills Baptist Church. In 1993 after 33 years of service she was able to retire from her first and last job. An accomplishment she was extremely proud of. Retirement allowed her more opportunity to be a big part of her Church community where she made many lifelong friends. She was the first to volunteer no matter the project. She loved to work in the Church office, answering the phone, and greeting people. She was such a strong Christian, who always shared her love for God with everyone.
She devoted so much time to her daughter Monique, and granddaughter Cheyenne who called her Mimi. She loved baking pies and cookies for neighbors, and friends, and playing hand after hand of Skip-bo. She’d never let you skip out on a meal; she’d insist on taking you out to eat and letting her “buy your meal”. She would go above and beyond to let everyone know how special they are on their birthday with singing in person or over the phone, birthday cards with gum, cakes, balloons, flowers, and so much more. She was the kindest, and most loving person, welcoming anyone with open arms and reminding them of the Love Jesus has for each of us and praying over them. She was truly an angel on earth, with the most infectious smile, and always so well put together with jewelry matching her outfit and shoes.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents F.M. and Dale, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends. She is survived by her daughter Monique Farr- Dines, granddaughter Cheyenne Reed, and husband Austin Reed, of Georgetown Texas, Brother Glenn Pruitt and wife Nolvia of Chico Texas, Nephew Jeffrey Pruitt and wife Christi of Fort Worth Texas, Nephew Gabe Pruitt and wife Stacey of Chico Texas, Nephew Sean Pruitt and wife Priscilla of Beaumont Texas, and eight great- nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Sherry will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Great Hills Baptist Church in the Worship Center, 10500 Jollyville Road, Austin, Texas 78759.
