After her battle with glioblastoma, Sherry Julia Larson died on December 12, 2020 in Georgetown, TX at the age of 71. She leaves behind her husband, Robert Larson; her mother Joyce Cole; her sister Julia Metzger; and her niece and nephew Christina and Brian Metzger. She is preceded in death by her father, Homer Cole; her sister Georgette Cole; and her brother-in-law Robert Metzger Jr.
Sherry was born July 1, 1949 in Lampasas, TX to father Homer Cole and mother Joyce Cole. She graduated from the University of Texas in 1983 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business while working full time at the I.R.S.
Sherry retired from the Internal Revenue Service, twice. She was a key employee in software and security, and worked directly out of Washington D.C. Her travels with the I.R.S. would encourage a life-long love of travel.
Sherry was a beloved and active member of Beta Sigma Phi. Throughout the 34 years she was a member, Sherry had achieved the rank of Master, held every office multiple times, and helped in many events, social gatherings, and charity drives.
Sherry married her first husband, Anthony Scott, in 1977, and although the union was not permanent, they made a strong team in helping to raise their niece, Christina Metzger. After moving back home to the Georgetown area, Sherry met Robert Larson, to whom she remained married for 11 glorious years.
Sherry was a head-strong and driven woman who loved gory mystery novels, scrapbooking, sewing, and all other manners of crafting. She loved to travel and experience new things. She even went parasailing and 4-wheeling for the first time with her husband, Robert.
When diagnosed with glioblastoma in April of 2020, she remained dedicated to her work, her loved ones, and her determination to fight her illness. Sherry was a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final months.
Sherry requested to be cremated. A memorial will be held in her honor at The Gabriel’s Funeral Home on December 19, 2020 from 2 to 4 pm. Her ashes will be interred in Liberty Hill Cemetery at a later date in a private ceremony. The family would especially like to thank Tiffin House for making her final days as comfortable as possible; and The Gabriel’s Funeral Home for making the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to The Glioblastoma Foundation.
