Shirley Mae Miller (“Miss Shirley”) went peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on December 12, 1918 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer disease. Throughout her life, she strove to follow Christ in charity and goodness to all of the lives she touched. She was born on March 15, 1929 in Dallas, Texas.
She spent her entire working career in secretarial and administration jobs in the trucking industry, her last employer being Bum Bright (Bright Truck Leasing) while he was also the owner of her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. Mr. Bright even arranged to have her photograph taken with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, a moment and photo she always treasured.
After moving to her new home in Duncanville, Texas, she took an early retirement so that she could devote all of her time to caring for her mother, who was also suffering from Alzheimer disease.
Ms. Miller is survived by her daughter and much-loved son-in-law, Diane and Bob Davis of Georgetown, Texas; her beloved grandsons, Corey and Tyler Garland; a step-granddaughter she loved as if she were her own, Katie Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Beulah Luster, and her younger sister, Barbara Penn.
Viewing is scheduled at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 2:00 P.M., after which Ms. Miller will be buried in Dallas at a private ceremony.
Many heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Estrella Oaks Care and Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown and Guiding Hospice for their loving and constant care of Miss Shirley. God Bless You All.
Arrangements by Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628 (512)863-2564.
