

Shirley McRee Nash, of Georgetown, Texas passed away the morning of January 25, 2022, at the age of 94. Shirley was a loving sister and a child of God, a life-long believer in Jesus Christ and Presbyterian; a missionary to Africa; a dedicated professional Director of Christian Education and lay worker in the church; a loving friend; and she was a tireless care-giver. Shirley was born January 20, 1928, in Lubbock, Texas to her parents Fitzhugh Lee McRee and Winifred Ellyson McRee. They preceded her in death, along with her husband Rev. Thomas J. Nash III, married for 42 years, (who was a Navy veteran of WWII), brother Fitzhugh Lee McRee Jr of Arlington, VA., brother-in-law Jimmy Bass, nephew in-law Bobby Griffey both of Lubbock, TX and cousins Jo Beth Carter, Marshal Ewing, and Loua Ewing.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Vara Jean Bass of Lubbock, TX, nieces and nephews Jennifer Griffey, Jim Bass and wife Charlotte, Janet Waters and husband Tim, Michael McRee and wife Michelle, Samuel McRee and wife Alejandra; sister-in-law Psyche McRee, 12 great nieces and nephews, 10 great-great nieces and nephews, cousins J.C. and Linda Johnson, Bill Johnson and wife Ruth Ann, Donny Ewing, Chris and Tricia Osborne, and Melissa Wilson. Shirley had no biological children; "Children-of-my-Heart" are Ema Osborne and Carter Osborne, grandchildren of cousin Jo Beth Carter (Children of Chris & Tricia Osborne).
Shirley graduated from Texas Technological College now Texas Tech University, in 1948 with B.S degree in mathematics; "I could not get a teaching job (too young, too small, a girl.) and she was led to a "call" (from God) to go to Assembly's Training School for Lay Workers at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in 1951, where she received her M.R.E. degree. She was a missionary of the Presbyterian Church US in the Belgian Congo from 1952 -1957. Shirley loved the Congo, again she felt called to "go to Africa". She was a teacher of mathematics for 34 years in public and private schools in OK. MD. VA. NC. In 1996 they moved to Georgetown, Texas. She was active in First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown, serving as Elder, Choir member, Moderator of Presbyterian Women, Stephen Minister, member of Hannah-Esther circle, Worship and Mission committees.
Her family would like to thank the staff and nurses of the Springs Health and Rehab of Cedar Park, TX. for the great care they gave Shirley for the last year and half.
Services will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 2 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, Texas.
Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Georgetown, TX or the Mission Agency work of Presbyterian Church (USA) in Democratic Republic of Congo.
