

Vernon Terrell Sherman, age 94, a resident of Georgetown, Texas since 2003 and formerly of Austin, Texas, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011. He was born August 25, 1917 to parents David and Bessie (Lawhon) Sherman in Lee County, Texas.
He worked with the Texas Baptist Men for more than 10 years and built more than 50 churches. Vernon served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a charter member of the Civilian Conservation Corp during the Depression. He served as a church Deacon with several of the Baptist churches in the area and is currently a member of Crestview Baptist Church. Vernon married his sweetheart Mary Turnipseed on May 20, 1939.
Vernon will be greatly missed by all his family and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his son Raymond Sherman and his grandson Bobby Dinger.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Mary Sherman; daughter, Doris Alexander and husband Kenneth of Georgetown, Texas; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 31, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 1, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas with Pastor Jack Phelps officiating. Inerment will follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be George Dinger, Terry Alexander, Tim Alexander, Terry Sherman, Wes Dinger, J.T. Sherman and Kenny Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be Jennifer Burditt, Mandy Alexander and Pam McWilliam.
