William "Bill" Dana Burgess

Bill was born October 23, 1943 in San Francisco, CA to Bill and Arlene Burgess. He was a proud high school graduate of Menlo Atherton High School in Atherton, CA. He attended Foothill and Cal State Hayward College. He was an Army Veteran, where he served as a Chaplain's Assistant in France.

On March 7, 1970, he married Linda McCall at Redwood Chapel in Castro Valley, CA. The couple lived in Newark, CA for 43 years until Bill retired in 2018 and they moved to Round Rock, TX. Bill worked as a Credit Manager for several paper companies in the Bay Area most of his career. In semi-retirement, he worked for the IRS in Oakland, CA.

Bill loved trains, traveling, taking road trips, reading and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed Friday night football games to watch his grandson’s band perform in the stands and during the halftime show.

He had a strong faith, and enjoyed teaching Sunday School to children and adults at several of the churches he attended through the years. He also loved volunteering with Education Connection where he would read with elementary school children. He loved all of his family and always took an interest in what they were doing, and would be their biggest cheerleader in everything they were pursuing. He had many roles in life, but his favorite roles were that of Husband, Father and proud Papa.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Burgess; daughter Laura (Bill) Garland of Round Rock, TX; grandson Tyler Garland; sister Kathy Dore of Livermore, CA; and six nieces and one nephew.

A graveside service for William will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas 76542. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Restoration Covenant Church, 475 Round Rock W Dr #110, Round Rock, Texas 78681.
