William Rupert Montalvo
August 18, 1930 – June 15, 2020
William Rupert Montalvo, 89, of Georgetown, passed away on June 15, 2020.
He was born in Port Arthur, Texas on August 18, 1930. He lived much of his young life in Silsbee, Texas. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, which was a completely new way of life for him. He served our country for six years in several locations. After his time in the service, he returned to Silsbee to go back to school. Bill graduated from Lamar University with a degree in Business Administration. He received his Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Southwest Texas State University. The year before he graduated, he was hired as an auditor by the General Accounting Office and worked out of Dallas as his home base.
He met his wife Jewel while working in Dallas, and they married and started their family. Because he traveled so much, he changed jobs so that he could be home more. After a few years with the G.A.O., they moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, where he retired from the government. They then moved back to Texas and he went to work for the state, which he retired from in 1992. From there, he opened up his car repair and sales business, Ace Autos, in Georgetown. He was a loving and kind man and many people remember him as “Mr. Bill.” It was at this time that Alzheimer’s started its destruction. After a few years, he was forced to sell his car lot. Since then, the disease had slowly taken over his life. For over 40 years, he was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown, serving as a head usher for a long time. Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Jewel; his children, Susan Stowe and husband Joe, Larry Latham and wife DeJuana, Holly Mahagan and husband Victor, William “Billy” Montalvo, Jr., Linda Ferrell and husband David, and David Montalvo and wife Erika; eighteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, with three more on the way. They called him Papa and each one was dear to his heart. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was a very caring Christian man that never met a stranger and never missed a chance to help anyone along the way. He was dearly loved by all of his family, and while we miss him so much, we know that one day we will all be together with our Lord.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 A.N. on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Weir Cemetery, 1590 County Road 120, Georgetown, 78626. Please practice safety rules for all of those in attendance and wear a mask or keeping distance. It is in the country, so wear comfortable shoes.
